Description

The White Wing version provides increased contrast and visibility, making it a useful option when a brighter, more prominent fly is desired.

A proven traditional pattern and a strong addition to any Atlantic salmon fly selection.

Pattern History

Father’s Pride is a traditional-style Atlantic salmon wet fly recognized for its strong contrast and distinctive combination of bright and dark colours. The pattern is commonly dressed in both dark-wing and white-wing versions, allowing the same basic colour scheme to be presented with very different overall profiles.

The White Wing variation replaces the darker wing with a bright white hair wing, creating a more visible, high-contrast interpretation while retaining the character of the original dressing. As with many established salmon patterns, variations in materials and dressing can be found among tiers.

Fishing Notes

The White Wing Father’s Pride is a useful choice when greater visibility and contrast are desired. Its bright wing stands out against the darker body and colourful accents, producing a fly with a noticeably lighter overall profile than the Dark Wing version.

Consider the White Wing when fishing lower light, deeper or broken water, or whenever you want the fly to present a brighter profile. The Dark and White Wing versions also make a useful complementary pair: rather than changing the entire pattern, the angler can change the overall visual impression by switching wing colour.

Pattern Notes

White kid goat hair is the DcTackle wing standard for this dressing, although white calf tail, white calf body hair, or white fox tail may also be used as alternatives. Black floss is used over a base layer of black nylon stretch; the underbody is optional and may be omitted depending on personal preference.

Use Uni-Stretch or Glo-Brite Floss for the orange tag

The size of the oval silver tinsel used for the tip and rib should be adjusted to suit the hook size and personal preference.
