Squirrel Tail
Among the most widely used wing materials for salmon and streamer flies. Squireel Tail keeps its shape when wet providing a consistent profile for the fly.
Some considerations when tying with this material:
1. Use a strong thread to allow for cosntant applied pressure. I like a more rounded profile thread like veevus or uni when tying in squirrel tail hair
2. Wax your thread with a quality tyers wax like that from veniards or semperfli
3. Separate the hair as you tie in especially in larger patterns where more hair is used
4. Hold the hair while trimming the head (if trimmed after tie in) to ensure no slippage or rotating of the hair around the shank
5. Taper the head and lay a smooth layer of thread especailly if tying in a collar afterwards such as with the Cosseboom pattern style
6. I have also used brush-on zap applied to the thread before tying in to ensure a bullet proof tie. (Caution: use zap sparingly to avoid it running into your bobbin contributing to some choice words being uttered

IF INTERESTED IN ORDERING FLIES?
It has become very difficult to keep a good stock of quality flies as I tie many of the patterns myself especially the custom streamers. If you are interested in ordering flies and do not see stock available please forward me a list of what you would like in the chat, by email, or Facebook message. I will provide you a quote and delivery date and only accept payment when the flies are ready to ship. Please note that It will be very unlikely that I will be able to provide custom flies during the summer months (between June-August)
